History

The São Carlos Special Medicinal Chemistry Meeting (SancaMedChem) was conceived to be an event in which researchers from medicinal chemistry and related areas would be able to establish an in-depth discussion in drug discovery and development approaches. To achieve this goal, it was decided to have a short-term focused biannual meeting with a limited number of participants.

The high quality of the 1st SancaMedChem in 2006 was remarkable (group photo), with renowned researchers and the opening conference of Prof. K. Barry Sharpless (Nobel Prize in Chemistry – 2001). As a result of this successful debut, the The 2nd São Carlos Special Medicinal Chemistry Meeting in 2008 came with the thematic of Structural Biology and Energetics of Drug-Receptor Interactions, getting together a mix of foreign and Brazilian researchers.

In 2010, The 3rd São Carlos Special Medicinal Chemistry Meeting brought another innovation: The First São Carlos Special Medicinal Chemistry Course on Drug Design.

This year, the 4th edition of the meeting is approaching, with the aim of delivering the best scientific environment to discuss the major challenges and perspectives in the medicinal chemistry field. There is another novelty this year: poster session! It is expected that the scientific quality of the earlier editions of the meeting will be achieved by the outstanding speakers and the selected participants.
