About São Carlos

São Carlos is a city countryside of São Paulo state. It is almost in the middle of the State. For those interested to visit some places before or after the meeting, the city has a website in Portuguese with some attractions.

How to arrive

.

By car:

From São Paulo city (240 Km or 384 miles – map): take Anhanguera Highway, then Washington Luiz Highway (there are many tool plazas, so keep R$ 40 in cash if you do not have the ‘Sem Parar’ card).

From Campinas (150 Km or 100 miles – map): take Anhanguera Highway, then Washington Luiz Highway (there are many tool plazas, so keep R$ 40 in cash if you do not have the ‘Sem Parar’ card).

From Ribeirão Preto (102 Km or 63 miles – map): take two highways (Antônio Machado Sant’ana and than Engenheiro Thales de Lorena Peixoto Júnior). There is just one tool plaza charging R$ 11.

By bus: There are many bus lines coming from different cities in São Paulo state and even from other states. The most important are listed below (sites writen in Portuguese):

Viação Cometa: it has direct connections to Araraquara, Batatais, Campinas, Catanduva, Caxambu, Franca, Juiz de Fora, Pouso Alegra, Poços de Caldas, Ribeirão Preto, Santos, São José do Rio Preto, São Paulo (Tietê), São Vicente.

Empresa Cruz: direct connections with more than 30 cities, including São Paulo (Tietê).

Viação Presidente: it comes from Belo Horizonte-MG to Campo Grande-MS, stopping in São Carlos (and some other cities in São Paulo State, like Franca) in the middle of the trip.

Usually all hotels are nearby the bus station and they are at most 15-20 min. on foot from USP.
